As it winds through the municipality of Muskiz, the Barbadun River tells a remarkable story of industrial and mining heritage. Nestled between iron-rich mountains, the river and its tributaries were the lifeblood of a significant industrial activity that flourished here from the 15th century onwards. The output of these ironworking complexes reached the sea through the now-vanished port of Lavalle in Muskiz.
